Purpose: 
To set equalized and taxable base value for the county, to create and maintain a graphic representation of legal descriptions for all property located in the county, and to assist local units of government in all matters concerning assessment and taxation administration as mandated by Michigan State Law

Description of Services
The main function of the Equalization Department is to assure that all the local units of government in the county are assessing fairly and equitably. This is accomplished by a staff of appraisers who conduct studies of all classes of property. We also perform complete re-appraisals of every parcel in a unit of government when requested by that unit. We are currently acting as the assessor for Freedom and Saline Township.

The Property Description section of the department maintains current property line maps in ArcGIS 9.0 for the entire county. Copies of these maps are available for a fee to the public. We are responsible for assigning new tax code numbers to newly split or combined parcels, new subdivisions and condominiums, except for Ann Arbor City, Ypsilanti Township, Scio Township and Dexter Village (the Scio Township portion of it). We also have aerial photos of the entire county and copies of these are available for a fee. We have aerial photos from 2010, 2007, 2005, 2002, 1998, 1990, 1984, 1979, 1966, and 1960. Other information we have that is available to the public includes assessments rolls for current and some past years, sales ratio studies, equalization reports, millage rates and some surveys.
