WHP Plan A

THE WHP PLAN A APPLICATION PERIOD  IS CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. (See "Important" note below!)

COVERED SERVICES for CURRENT MEMBERS:

WHP Plan A Covers:

  • Primary health care from WHP Primary Providers;
  • Diagnostic tests such as X-rays, laboratory tests and others;
  • Some pre-approved specialty care services;
  • Inpatient hospitalization (in Washtenaw County only);
  • Emergency Room services for "true emergencies";
  • A limited number of prescription drugs (mostly generic drugs);
  • Outpatient mental health visits (limited number).

WHP Plan A has more comprehensive health benefits than WHP Plan B. For example, WHP Plan A benefits are:

  • $1 co-payments for both brand and generic prescription drugs;
  • More psychotropic prescription drugs (for mental health conditions);
  • Prescription drugs for HIV-AIDS;
  • Emergency Room services outside of Washtenaw County for "true emergencies"; and
  • Ground ambulance for "true emergencies."

WHP Plan A Eligibility and Enrollment

When open for new enrollment, WHP "Plan A" is for Washtenaw County residents who enroll in the Adult Benefit Waiver Program (ABW; also called "Adult Medical Program" or AMP; formerly State Medical Program). In general, people who are likely to qualify are:

  • Adults age 18 through 64 with no dependent children
  • With income up to 35% of the Poverty Level (according to Michigan Medicaid). For example, in 2008 income for an individual must not be more than about $3,640 per year; and
  • A U.S. citizen or a non-citizen, legal resident in the U.S., usually for at least 5 years; and
  • Without private or public insurance such as Blue Cross, full Medicaid, and Medicare.

BE AWARE THAT:

  • ABW (WHP Plan A) has more comprehensive health benefits than WHP Plan B.
  • When WHP Plan A is open for new enrollment, WHP Plan B members who apply for ABW (WHP Plan A) and do NOT qualify will NOT lose their WHP Plan B coverage.
