County Environmental Education Recogntion
Today, creating, understanding, and changing behavior have become vital
parts of public service. And when it comes to the environment, Washtenaw
County
Planning and Environment is garnering local, state and national
recognition for its Public Education Media.
- The Home Energy Conservation video series received a Michigan Emmy nomination;
- A water quality video produced by the County was a 2008 Millers Creek Film Festival winner;
- Last summer the County’s video addressing the safe disposal of medications won a Michigan Recycling Coalition Spotlight Award;
- And their
Green Info Guide, a collection of links to local environmental
resources, won the 2008 Michigan Recycling Coalition Award for Outstanding
Community Education Program.
These media projects can be accessed from the County’s “Green Media” page, at www.ewashtenaw.org/green-media.
The County’s “
Waste Knot Program”, which encourages and rewards local businesses for
preserving resources and preventing waste, has received the EPA Waste Wise
Gold Achievement Award in Washington, D.C. in November. The link to this
program is available at

Congratulations to Planning & Environment staff on these achievements
that “get the word out” about preserving and protecting a healthy
environment.
