On Tuesday, May 20, 2008, Washtenaw Literacy will host the Support Literacy Now Breakfast at the Morris Lawrence Building at Washtenaw Community College. The breakfast is scheduled from 8:00am until 9:00am - with opportunities for networking beginning at 7:45am. Mary Udoji, former Washtenaw County Director of Library Services will be a featured speaker.
I
n 2007, Administrator Bob Guenzel
helped to establish Literacy as one of the County's highest community
priorities. "We have a need and we have people with ideas and the will to
find new ways to meet that need. Literacy has an untold number of ties to
the future stability and quality of life in our community," said
Guenzel.
There is no cost associated with attending the event, but pledge cards will be distributed at the end of the program. All funds raised from the breakfast will benefit Washtenaw Literacy.
Mary Udoji has a passion for helping others. She has partnered with Washtenaw Literacy in the past, and has been a lynchpin in the fresh initiative on literacy that involves Washtenaw County. According to Mary, the County collaboration that will shine a light on the critical importance of literacy has been a perfect fit. “Washtenaw Literacy’s mission is straightforward: ‘To help adults change their lives through literacy.’
Washtenaw Literacy is a volunteer-based organization providing free literacy instruction customized to the needs of adults throughout Washtenaw County. Volunteers provide individual and group tutoring in reading and writing skills and in English as a second language so adults can improve their personal, family, and community lives.
